Hawaiian Waves

The waves of the first winter storm hit the Na Pali coast on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, and although these look small the waves are about 15- 20 feet high and are tremendously powerful.
To put the picture in perspective those cliffs rise to about 4,000 feet at their highest points.
This coast is best viewed by boat but the Kalalau Trail, starting where this picture was taken, provides the only land access, traversing 11 miles and crossing five major valleys (and countless smaller ones) before reaching Kalalau Beach at the base of Kalalau Valley. It is a tough hike taking 2 days but well worth it to see this magnificent coastline.
